The Convection Working Group is an initiative of ESSL, EUMETSAT and its member states.

Given the highly variable appearance and characteristics of these storms, this date was selected as the second CWG golden case, to be examined in detail, as well as used to test various convection-related algorithms.
Supported by the international training project EUMeTrain, young researcher Petra Mikus (DHMZ) did an impressive research on a satellite based method to detect overshooting tops and the impact this can have for nowcasting. Her research was presented at the Convection Week, at the EUMETSAT conference and the ECSS conference.
You are welcomed to take note of this research in this PDF.
The final minutes to the CWG meeting in Palma de Mallorca are now available. Thank you for the comments and suggestions.
John Mecikalski and Kristohper Bedka have made a big effort to write and compile the “Best Practice” document, describing relevant convection nowcasting methods.
Download and take note of the methods they describe! The intention is that this document is a “living” document and you are strongly encouraged to add sections to it, describing alternative nowcasting methods. The "Best Practice document" and your contributions will be a topic at the next CWG meeting during the ECSS Conference in Mallorca.
